Zhang Haiying

Zhang Haiying paints from photographs depicting the Chinese government's efforts to eliminate prostitution. Haiying remains neutral on the issue, using the devices of propaganda to explore issues of power and vulnerability rather than any political agenda.

Angie Wang

Angie Wang is an illustrator based out of Portland, Oregon.  Really awesome stuff.  I've seen a few comic pages on her flickr and would really like to see her do a published comic.  Check out her fashion blog (which is currently on hiatus) here.  Check out her website here.

Jansson Stegner

 "Great Plains"

 "The Ascetic"

"The Peacemaker"

 "Sarabande"

"Untitled"

Jansson Stegner combines romanticized beauty with pop culture's glamorized depictions of violence and cheap heroicism in TV shows like COPS. His paintings of police, with their exaggerated limbs and vulnerable positions, contradict the connotations of their uniform in odd and hilarious ways. Of course, this manipulated portrayal of generic power also undermines traditional ideas about authority.
Represented by the Bellwether Gallery.

Raymond Lemstra

Cool stuff from Raymond Lemstra.  The second and third images above are Homer and Tin Tin.  Check out his website here.
